A 5th grade reading class at Oakland Elementary School where I teach art had just completed reading a book about Harriet Tubman. The students were given fabric squares and examples of the patterns that were used as codes. They colored the cloth with fabric markers. I have sewn all their squares together to make the top of the quilt. I still have to get batting and backing. Then the quilting will begin.Saturday, February 5, 2011
